THE GOCHUJANG
UMAMI BOMB
Spicy Gochujang meets premium soy, toasted sesame oil, sweet brown sugar and a bright punch of vinegar. No prep.
HI, I’M SUNG
After 20 years in the corporate world and one very memorable experience on MasterChef Canada later, I’m here to share my unique take on Korean flavours with you!
Bad Korean is the company I started to showcase Asian flavours created by people like me, immigrant kids who grew up caught between cultures. I love the flavours of Korea and I want to introduce you to them, my way.
This Korean Chili Sauce is the first of many products that break the rules of Korean cooking, in a good way.
HOT TAKE:
GOCHUJANG IS AWESOME,
BUT A PAIN TO USE.
Everybody loves gochujang - myself included. But you know what I don’t love? Wrestling with it every time I want to spice something up.
As a BBQ sauce fan, I wanted a gochujang condiment I could easily pour on anything.
By mixing gochujang with soy sauce, sesame oil, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, and tomato paste, I created an easy to use gochujang chili sauce that’s also the biggest umami bomb I’ve ever tasted.

Where do you ship?
I ship anywhere across Canada. Will you offer international shipping in the future?
I would love to explore international sales in the future. When that happens I will announce it through my newsletter and on Instagram (@sungthebadkorean).How long will my order take to ship?
Orders ship within 1 to 3 business days. Once it's with the carrier, delivery times vary depending on where you live in Canada. Most orders should arrive in 3-5 business days. How do I track my order?
When your order ships, you will receive an email with a tracking link from the carrier. You can follow that link at any time to see your delivery status. How much does shipping cost?
I charge a flat rate of $12 for the 2 pack to any destination in Canada. All 4 packs and 6 packs ship for free across Canada. Can I change or cancel my order?
Orders can only be canceled if they have not yet been fulfilled or shipped. If you need to change or cancel your order, please contact me as soon as you can using the Get Support form. I pack and ship everything myself, so if we can catch it early, I can make changes before your order is processed. -

I accept all major payment methods at checkout, including credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Amex) and Digital Wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay). Your security is important to me, so all transactions are processed through Squarespace’s secure payment partners.Do you charge tax on orders?
Because basic groceries such as sauces fall under the "zero-rated" category for GST/HST in Canada, you will not be charged GST or HST on those items. However, please note that I am required to charge the applicable GST/HST on shipping and handling fees. To make life easier, I have already included that tax into my flat rate shipping fee.

What’s your return or refund policy?
Due to the perishable nature of our products, I can’t accept returns or exchanges on food items, however if there is a quality issue, or if something isn’t right with your order, please contact me within 7 days of delivery and I’d be happy to work with you to find a solution, which may include a replacement or refund.I plan to offer a simple return or exchange process for all non-food merchandise, such as branded clothing, aprons, etc. provided the item is unused and in its original condition. The full policy, including the return window and process, will be published here before that merchandise becomes available.
My order arrived damaged. What should I do?
I’m sorry about that! Please take a photo of the damaged items, the box they arrived in, and email them along with your order number to sung@badkorean.ca. Please try and do this within 48 hours of delivery. The photos not only confirm the damage, but also help me improve my packing and process. Once I’ve reviewed your email, I’ll get in touch and promptly arrange for a replacement or full refund, based on your preference. My package never arrived or is marked delivered but I don’t have it.
I understand how frustrating this can be! If your package is missing, and you have already checked with neighbors, looked behind the bushes (honestly, some delivery folks are pretty creative), and have waited 3 business days after your package was marked as delivered by the carrier (sometimes they mark a package as delivered 1-2 days before the actual drop off - yes, I know, deep breath) please fill out the Get Support form and I’ll look into it right away. We can open an investigation with the shipping carrier on your behalf, which typically takes 7-10 business days. I will communicate next steps for a replacement or refund once that investigation is complete. -
Do I need to refrigerate the sauce after opening?
Yes. Once opened, the sauce should be kept in the fridge. It’s made using a process that creates a highly shelf-stable product, but refrigeration helps keep the flavour and quality at their best after opening. How long does the sauce last once opened?
When stored in the fridge, the sauce keeps well for a long time. For best quality, I recommend enjoying it within a few months of opening. As with any food, give it a quick look and smell before use and trust your instincts. My sauce is separating into two layers. Is that normal?
Yes, that’s completely normal. The sauce contains real sesame oil, so it can separate a bit if it sits unused for a while. Nothing is wrong with it. Just give the bottle a good shake with the cap on and it will come right back together. -

What is your sauce made of?
My sauce is made of gochujang (Korean fermented red chili paste), soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, apple cider vinegar, golden yellow sugar, tomato paste, and water.
Can I use the sauce as a marinade?
Yes, you can. The sauce is thick, so I like thinning it with a bit of water or broth when I’m using it as a marinade. It helps the flavour coat the meat more evenly and gives you better penetration. Once it’s thinned a little, it works great on chicken, pork, beef, tofu, or vegetables. If you're grilling, just remember that the brown sugar can burn on high heat, so brush it on toward the end.Is the sauce very spicy?
The sauce has some heat, but it’s meant to be balanced. My goal was to make something that tastes bold and layered without being overwhelming. If you like gochujang and Korean flavours, you’ll probably find it approachable. In my personal opinion, it’s about the same if not a bit less spicy than your typical sriracha sauce. Can I mix the sauce with other condiments?
Yes. It mixes beautifully with mayo, sour cream, yogurt, or even other hot sauces to add even more kick. It’s an easy way to build quick dressings, sandwich spreads, or unique dipping sauces. Is your chili sauce vegan or gluten free?
Yes, my product is vegan friendly. While there is no "official" government vegan symbol in Canada, I’ve done the homework to ensure that this sauce does fit a vegan lifestyle:I use a specifically sourced Gochujang that is certified vegan (some others may contain honey or anchovy).
The soy sauce, tomato paste, and toasted sesame oil are all naturally plant-based.
I use a golden yellow sugar that is not refined using animal products.
However, my sauce is not gluten-free. It contains wheat from two essential, traditional ingredients: soy sauce and gochujang. If you have a gluten allergy, intolerance, or Celiac disease, this sauce is unfortunately not suitable for you.
Are you planning to release more products?
Yes. I’m already experimenting with a hotter version of my original chili sauce and some fun merchandise ideas. I’m moving slowly because I want everything to be top quality, but new products are definitely coming. If you want to know when they drop, follow me on Instagram @sungthebadkorean or sign up for email updates.
